Dottor Pira
Drpira , stage name of Maurizio Stefano Piraccini ( Tortona , 25 January 1977 ), is a cartoonist , graphic and television writer Italian. Creator of one of the first Italian webcomic portals ( I Fumetti della Gleba ), he is the author of short stories and several books, both self-produced and published in a traditional way, characterized by a simple graphic style and apparently nonsense narrative plots. He has created graphics and animations for musical groups and has been the author of television programs.
In his youth he approaches street-art by founding the OK group with some friends of the Piedmontese province . After his university studies in Industrial Design at the Politecnico di Milano , he began working as a graphic designer, moving several times and living for about ten years in different cities in Germany , before moving to Rome. He also collaborates with some television programs, writing episodes for Lorem Ipsum ( Deejay TV ) and Top 5 ( Rai 5 ). He writes about television on XL di Repubblica , NERO Magazine and Link. Also active in the musical field, he founded in 1999 the Cervello Meccanico Records and has played in various formations (the Insult with hardcore punk sounds, the Bhopal inspired by the post-apocalyptic crust scene and the Aquarius Omega, psychedelic- ambient) or alone (like Pira666, mostly for an 8bit heavy metal project, or drpira for the most recent activities, such as relaxation compilations in collaboration with Dj Pikkio).
A gradual intensification of the cartoonist activity, started online and with fanzines and self-productions, is accompanied by a voluntary reduction of the work as a graphic designer that will lead him to devote himself exclusively to drawing. On the portal of I Fumetti della Gleba he gradually creates a myriad of characters for different strands of short stories, including Berutti , Marguati , Ken il Corriere , Batma and Robi , Iodosan space patrol , Sergio. Often the different narrative arcs are then collected and published in self-produced volumes.
Since 2007 he has been part of the Superamici collective (with Ratigher , Tuono Pettinato , Maicol & Mirco and LRNZ ), then Fratelli del Cielo , with whom he founded the magazine Hobby Comics published by GRRRzetic and the free press Pic Nic and participates in the special issue XZ Comics-nude women with hands in the pocket of the magazine X Comics of Rabbit Publisher.
In 2011 he made his debut with traditional publishing by publishing Gatto Mondadory and the fairy mobile phone with GRRRzetic, the first chapter of an ironic fantasy trilogy then reprinted in 2015 by GRRRZ in paperback edition. In 2012 the second chapter Gatto Mondadory in the valley of the cousins came out and in the same year he created with Ratigher the volume Ultimo Impero , in which the two authors, starting from the ends, draw the march of an army that comes to clash with the faction rival only in the center of the book.
In 2015 the third volume Gatto Mondadory and the smurfs of the afterlife was published with a triple production GRRRZ, I Fumetti della Gleba and CORPOC. In 2014 GRRRZ had already released a sticker album inspired by the saga.
For several years he has published strips and stories on XL di Repubblica , Smemoranda and Vice. In particular, the series Rap Violent in the Ghetto Street appears on Vice , then collected in 2013 by The Milan Review in an album with unpublished episodes with which that year he won the Boscarato Award as best single author at the Treviso Comic Book Festival. Participate with covers, drawings, articles and stories in linus of April and October 2015; January, July and September 2016 and May and August 2017.
